Frontex: A Gendarmerie of the EU or just a Border Assistance?
Netopil, Petr ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bahenský, Vojtěch (referee)
This research focuses on the Civil-Security Relations between the EU and its border agency, FRONTEX. Relationships between the state and its border guards vary wildly in space and time in terms of the level of militarization, which is why this thesis set out to define the situation of the EU's first uniformed and armed service. A single case study was used, as FRONTEX as a transnational border agency is a deviant case. This research creates a typology of security services within the state and then places FRONTEX within it. In the discussion that follows, the relationship between the EU and FRONTEX seems to be matched best by the relationship between a state and its gendarmerie, though the police force is also very close. Furthermore, there are exceptions where the agency behaves more like an army or a civilian service. In terms of real-world analogues, it tracks most closely the relationships between the Baltic states, Finland, Poland, and their respective border guards.

Hutař, Stanislav
The aim of thesis is to identify the impacts of the Eurozone crisis and the migra-tion crisis on the freight transport. All types of freight transport are presented at work, however road freight transport appears as the most important. The fun-damental problem of the migration crisis is the resumption of border controls at the internal borders of the European Union. Müller, Daniel ; Scheu, Harald Christian (advisor) ; Svobodová, Magdaléna (referee)
This thesis deals with the proposed changes in the area of EU asylum and migration law in the light of the current refugee crisis. EU asylum and migration law are two separate areas between which there is a "close connection". The paper describes EU asylum and migration legal framework, then delimits the term "refugee crisis" and reviews recent measures taken or proposed by the EU. The thesis is divided into 3 chapters. In the first part of the paper the author follows up the legal framework which encompasses both international legal instruments (1951 Refugee Convention and others) and EU primary law and secondary acts. The second chapter is dedicated to analysis of the "refugee crisis", its crises factors, as well as to reflections on the characteristic of this crisis as a state of emergency. The last chapter, which is internally divided into two subchapters, concerning asylum and migration law, relates to particular measures taken by the EU during the crisis. The subchapter which deals with the asylum law includes the following topics: on the one hand it describes ad hoc measures to tackle the migration crisis in Italy and Greece, on the other hand it analyzes proposals of a system reform (e.g. proposal for a permanent EU relocation mechanism, reform of the Dublin system, completing the reform of...
The Effect of the European Migrant Crisis on the Securitization of the Schengen Area
Libosková, Natálie ; Novotná, Markéta (advisor) ; Tamchynová, Kristýna (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the securitization of the Schengen Arean in connection with the migrant crisis in years 2015/2015. It analyses security discourse of two representatives of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker and Dimitris Avramopoulos, regarding certain measures related to borders (both internal and external) which were introduced during the migrant crisis. The discourse analysis is used to evaluate whether the given measures are signs of securitization. The observed measures are: strenghtening Frontex, reintroducing internal borders, construction of border fences and creating the system ETIAS. It became obvious that during the crisis there has been an increase in emphasising of security connected with migration.
Nórsko a integrácia do EÚ - vnútroštátne a medzinárodné aspekty
Šťastný, Tomáš ; Kučerová, Irah (advisor) ; Karlas, Jan (referee)
This thesis is based on the historical base, a deep look at the Norwegian referendum results and public opinion development. We concentrated on three research questions and on three related hypotheses studying Norway history, Norwegian politics and the possibilities of Norwegian integration to the European Union. We studied intrastate and also international aspects of this integration process. The Nordic cooperation is very important for this research. This Nordic cooperation provided a platform for alternative economic cooperation and this cooperation is also a special first stage on the way to the EU. We fulfilled the thesis goals, we answered the research questions and we verified all three hypotheses. In conclusion, we think that Norwegian admission to the EU is unreal nowadays because there are non-sufficient economic and non- economic reasons and stimuli for that. Norwegian political parties are not interested in this topic because this topic is very risky. Moreover, Norwegian public opinion is against the full membership in the EU.

Germany and the Eastern Enlargement of the Schengen Area
Mrhal, Jaromír ; Mlsna, Petr (advisor) ; Filipová, Lucie (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the preconditions, the process and the consequences of the so-called Eastern enlargement of the Schengen Area in 2007, with special regard to the Federal Republic of Germany, its role in the process as well as the advantages and disadvantages connected with it. After a short introductory summary of functioning principles and history of the Schengen Area from 1985 to 2011 there is a chapter dedicated to the process of the enlargement by nine new countries. Nevertheless the main attention is paid to Poland and the Czech Republic, two Eastern neighbours of Germany. The third chapter analyzes in detail the consequences of the enlargement, especially its influence on the development of criminality and illegal immigration in Germany or the police co-operation among the countries concerned. Apart from the all- German dimension the thesis focuses on the specific situation in individual federal states on the eastern border - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony and Bavaria. The last chapter deals with the media reflection of this topic in the Czech press, specifically in the most widely read non-tabloid journal Mladá fronta DNES. By means of an analysis of statistics the statements has been refuted that the Schengen enlargement is going to cause a growth of...

the Role of FRONTEX in the European refugee crisis
Fridrichová, Katrin ; Novotná, Markéta (advisor) ; Rolenc, Jan Martin (referee)
The bachelor thesis aims to elaborate the role of Frontex agency and its sufficiency in coping with the migration crisis. The criteria chosen were quantitative aspects (the budget and the number of detentions of illegal border crossings over the external borders), and qualitative aspects evaluated with content analysis based on proclamations of the representatives of European bodies (European Council, European Parliament and European Commission) in the year 2015. Main designated activities were operational, on the base of the analysis of agency´s mandate. Therefore, the main role of the agency is both coordination and assistant. The rule, that member states and their border forces are responsible for external borders protection, still applies. This statement is the main problematic issue and despite Frontex has been successful in its role, all the investigated European institutions agrees that the mandate of the agency should be inevitably strengthened to improve protection of external borders.
International Dimension of Immigration Policy
Novotná, Markéta ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Eichler, Jan (referee) ; Vlček, Dalibor (referee) ; Drbohlav, Dušan (referee)
The relation between the immigration policies and state sovereignty in the European Union (EU) is both a most topical and controversial issue. The dissertation is conceived as a disciplinary interpretative study based on the concept of four types of sovereignty by S. Krasner. This approach allows to interpret the seeming contradiction between a state perceived as a sole actor in the area of immigration policy and the communitarization of the immigration policy at the EU level. By using the analysis of discourse as well as of practice, this thesis acknowledges shifts of power to the EU, but stresses that these shifts represent strengthening of other factors of power and control at the same time. Thus, in certain, particularly security, aspects, European harmonization of immigration policy can reinforce state sovereignty. It applies to the external as well as internal dimensions of the EU immigration policy that a part of the policy remains to be decided at the national level. Nevertheless, also the communitarized area offers the member states a significant room for discretion. Thus, there is still considerable tension between the idea of solidarity between member states on one hand and their national interests on the other and the common European immigration policy remains to be achieved in future.
